Counselling - Marie Habke

One of my clients made me laugh a while ago, when she described feeling great after our last session – “like having a really big poop!” She meant that she had been able to get rid of some of the things that she was hanging on to, but didn’t need anymore. Counselling can be like that. Even though we live with our past all the time, we often don’t take the time to think about it. The perspective we can get when we talk about it, with someone who can be gentler in interpreting what happened than we might be ourselves, can free us. Knowing that the past was not our fault, or understanding why something happened, or how it has impacted us, is a way to tidy up our emotional selves. Or to let things go. Flush it out, so to speak.
